Indian Carrot Halva Ice Cream Nik Sharma Cooks

I guess, I should have called this week as “ice cream week” on the blog! First the beet one and now this bright orange carrot ice cream. As of now, my freezer looks like a haven of several brightly colored containers, one would think I’m stocking up for an emergency. But with the warmer temperatures sinking in, I think this stockpile will be treasured well. If you’ve eaten at an Indian restaurant you might have seen “gajjar ka halwa” (Hindi) or carrot halva on the menu....

Jerk Chicken Low Carb Jamaican Jerk Chicken Recipe

Why You’re Going To Love It I’ll be the first to admit I am a spice snob. I just don’t think ready-made brands compare to homemade spice mixes. It takes so little time to make a spice mix if you have all the ingredients, that I always end up making my own. But not everyone wants to, and not everyone has all the ingredients to make one. So I decided to try out the Spice House mixes and see if I could find something I liked....

Lamb Pizza With Pickled Onions Everyday Flavor Nik Sharma Cooks

There are many different types of lamb-topped pizzas, and among my favorites are the ones made in the Middle East called lahmacun (pronounced “lahma’joun”). My recipe is based on the Turkish lahmacun, but I’m using pizza dough, and my seasonings are slightly different. However, there is one ingredient that makes the lamb stand out in this dish, and I’m keeping it in this recipe: Turkish pepper paste. Turkish pepper paste is a concentrated mix of red peppers, quite similar in appearance to tomato paste, and a wonderful condiment to keep in your refrigerator at all times....

Lettuce Mango Salad

A salad I prepared recently is a mango based one with iceberg lettuce, cherry tomatoes and cucumber. I used honey mustard- mayonnaise vinaigrette which is simple yet flavorful. Wash, pat dry a head of iceberg lettuce and tear into bite sized pieces and place in a salad bowl. Add a sliced cucumber, peeled and sliced ripe mango (large), handful of cherry tomatoes, finely sliced bell pepper. For salad dressing, whisk 1 1/2 tbsps eggless mayo, 1 tbsp olive oil, crushed small garlic clove, 1 tbsp honey mustard sauce, 1/2 tbsp honey, 1/2 tbsp lemon juice, salt to taste, 1/4 tsp pepper powder....

Meatball Curry Anglo Indian Food Mutton Kheema Recipe

Today’s Meatball curry is an classic Anglo Indian food recipe that I learnt from my friend’s mother many years ago. Vizag has a large Anglo Indian community and their contribution to our educational institutions is significant. Many Anglo Indians teachers taught me during my initial school going years and also have few close friends. One of my Anglo Indian friend’s mother was a seamstress par excellence who sewed the most elegant evening gowns and dresses....

My Favorite Banana Bread Recipe

I originally published this recipe in 2013 and have since added new photos and a few more success tips. This is my favorite banana bread recipe, one that I’ve cherished for years. It’s one of those classic recipes that you start to know by heart, just like a good pie crust or chocolate chip cookies recipe. This bread comes to mind first when I have leftover spotty bananas on the counter, and it’s the bread that’s on constant rotation in my freezer stash....

Oatmeal Lemon Crumble Bars

I originally published these lemon crumble bars back in 2012. When making this dessert recipe a decade ago, I used store-bought cookie mix for the crust and topping. While cookie mix makes a quick and handy shortcut, I prefer these bars with a from-scratch crumble… and I think you will too! Today I’m showing you my homemade variation and I promise they’re nearly just as easy. The oatmeal lemon crumble bars have a way of not making it out of the kitchen, but should any survive your taste-testing, they stack and store easily for gift-giving, bake sales, and brunches!...

One Pan Roast Leg Of Lamb

I LOVE a roast lamb dinner with tender, succulent lamb with its meaty rich flavour, and having the veggies roasted in the same pan means we’re going easy on the washing up too. This one’s a winner for a Sunday roast! 👩‍🍳PRO TIP I’m cooking this until the leg of lamb is a nice medium with an internal temp of 65-70C. At this temp, the meat will still be a little pink but will be lovely and tender and juicy and full of flavour....

One Pot Creamy Bolognese

Spag Bol – the classic dinner that I make all the time. I’ve made a few adjustments to my go-to recipe to turn it into a one pan dish that can be cooked up with pasta shells (or your favourite pasta shape). All it takes is the addition of some stock. You need enough to cook the pasta, but not so much that the sauce ends up too runny after the pasta has absorbed the liquid it needs....
