My kids love watermelon so it is always on my weekly grocery list during summers.

I usually serve it cut in triangles, cubes, or watermelon sticks or fries. At times we juice it too which is probably my husband’s favorite way to eat/drink the watermelon. Watermelon strawberry popsicles is our other favorite watermelon treat that we make often during summer to enjoy on a hot summer day!

This Watermelon Juice Is

Quick and easyMade with fresh ingredients Healthy and deliciousNaturally sweetRefreshing and satisfying

Watermelon juice is a natural and healthy way to stay hydrated this hot summer season. You just need a good ripe watermelon and a blender to make it, it’s that easy.  I love flavoring it with a dash of salt and lemon juice to bring out the sweet watermelon flavor. And there you have a cool, naturally sweet, refreshing, and super hydrating watermelon drink ready!!   It is so much better than store-bought juices that are loaded with sugar. Love seeing my kids and family enjoy a natural drink that is also healthy.

Health Benefits

Watermelon is mostly (92%) water which makes it the best thirst quencher during a hot summer day.  It’s also a great source of an amino acid called arginine, which helps burn fat quickly and thus aid in weight loss.  Watermelon is high in Lycopene, which gives fruits and veggies their beautiful red color. There is more Lycopene in watermelon than tomatoes which is also believed to promote cardiovascular health and help prevent the risk of other diseases.  It is full of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties and improves digestion.  Good source of vitamin C, vitamin A, B vitamins that promote healthy hair, skin nails, and many other nutrients like potassium which helps the body recover post-exercise or workout.

Recipe Ingredients

You need just three ingredients to make this refreshing and hydrating watermelon juice. If you are unable to find seedless watermelon, use one with seeds. Remove the black seeds using a knife or spoon (as much as possible). It is ok to leave the tender white seeds. Salt - I prefer to add a pinch of salt (or black salt for the Indian flavor) to bring out the sweetness of the watermelon. Lime (lemon) juice - a splash of lime or lemon juice adds a nice tang, vitamin c, and refreshing flavor to the juice. It also helps balance the sweetness and brighten the juice color. In addition, you can also add a pinch of black pepper, mint, and ginger. All these ingredients have their own health benefits and make the watermelon juice even more delicious and nutritious. Please refer to the recipe card for exact measurements of ingredients.

How To Make Watermelon Juice

1 and 2 - Add the chilled, seedless, and cut watermelon pieces along with salt and lemon juice to the blender. 3 and 4 - Blend for 15-20 seconds until smooth and frothy. This step is optional but if your watermelon has a lot of pulp or seeds, pass the juice through a sieve (mesh strainer) to filter out the pulp. I usually skip this step. Refreshing watermelon juice is ready!

Serving Suggestion and Storage

Serve Watermelon juice chilled and preferably immediately after it’s made. For serving, add ice cubes to a glass, pour in the chilled juice. Garnish with some lemon slice and mint leaves (optional) and enjoy!! You can drink it with your morning breakfast or as a mid-morning or late afternoon snack.
Leftover juice can be stored in the refrigerator, covered for 2-3 days. The juice will separate, but you can mix with a spoon and drink it.
You can also freeze it in popsicle mold to enjoy as a frozen treat later or in ice cube trays. Add watermelon ice cubes to sparkling water or tonic water for that delicious refreshing twist.

Recipe Tips

Use a sweet, juicy, and ripe watermelon to make the best watermelon juice.  Ideally, seedless watermelon works best but one with seeds can also be used. Remove black seeds before blending or strain them after blending to filter out the seeds/pulp. Tender white seeds are ok to use. Cut and refrigerate your watermelon prior to blending for that chilled refreshing juice.  Use a high-speed blender (not a food processor) for a smoother juice.   Straining is optional and required only if you don’t prefer the pulp. Juice with pulp is thicker and filling compared to the strained one. You can add some ginger and mint while blending for variation. Fruits like strawberries, raspberries, or oranges also make a great combination with watermelon. Stored juice will separate, with pulp at the top and liquid at the bottom. It is still ok to consume. Just stir with a spoon and serve.
