How to make Chocolate Covered Strawberries
It couldn’t be easier to make Chocolate covered strawberries. Dip clean and dry strawberries into melted chocolate and let them to set. To take a step further add some toppings to them or drizzle some chocolate. With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, these quick treats are a great gift idea. A couple of ingredients and hour or two is all you need to make these.
In this post, I’ll be sharing two variations of chocolate covered strawberries You could simply dip the strawberries in chocolate and leave out the drizzle or topping part. But these additions make the strawberries much more presentable especially if you are planning to gift/share these with someone special/friends/family. Toppings can be sprinkles, finely chopped nuts or chocolate, shredded coconut. etc. Basically anything you like. Now forget those store bought expensive Chocolate Strawberries and try these homemade ones.
Making Chocolate Covered Strawberries using Instant Pot:
If this recipe wasn’t easier, Instant Pot makes it a breeze. Use Instant pot to melt your chocolate and/or to keep the chocolate warm and melted. Now no more worrying and rushing to dip the strawberries incase the chocolate hardens or dries out. Its super awesome and I think this will be my go to method now onwards. All you need to do is take your Instant pot and fill it with 2 cups of water. Place a glass bowl that fit just right on top of the Instant Pot such that bottom portion is inside but the top is higher than the pot rim just like in double broiler method. Start Instant pot on saute (normal) mode and get the water to boil. The steam will help melt the chocolate (indirect heat). Once you see chips melting, stir occasionally until completed melted and smooth. Cancel the saute function and you can switch it on warm mode to keep the chocolate melted. Now you can start dipping your strawberries (refer to step by step method below).
Step by Step Method for Chocolate Covered Strawberries:
Wash the strawberries thoroughly and gently pat dry them with a paper napkin or kitchen towel. If required, air dry them further on a kitchen towel till completely dry. Line a plate or a baking tray with parchment paper and place the strawberries (once completely dry) over it. Keep aside.
Next keep all your toppings ready like sprinkles, finely chopped walnuts, shredded coconut etc.
Divide the strawberries into two equal portions (this is optional) one to be dipped into white chocolate and others into semi sweet chocolate.
Using a double broiler method bring water in the bottom saucepan/vessel to a boil and place the bowl with semi sweet chocolate chips (should fit perfect and the bowl should be completely dry) on top. With heat on low, keep stirring occasionally until the chips begin to melt and chocolate turns smooth. Now take it off the heat and give it a good mix.
Once you have your strawberries, chocolate and toppings ready, start the dipping process. For this, work with one strawberry at a time. Hold the strawberry using its green leaves and dip it in the bowl of melted chocolate such that its ¾ portion is dipped. Swirl and turn until the chocolate covers the strawberries well leaving some top portion of the strawberry as is. Tap off any excess chocolate.
If you want to add any toppings this is the time - Hold the chocolate coated strawberry over a clean plate and sprinkle the toppings of choice by slowly rotating the strawberry to distribute toppings evenly. Once done carefully place the strawberry back on the baking sheet. If you don’t want to add any topping simply place the dipped chocolate strawberry on to the baking sheet.
Repeat the process for remaining strawberries from the first batch. Allow the chocolate to set/dry completely. You can keep the tray into the fridge for 5 mins or until the chocolate sets. Don’t keep it for too long or else condensation might occur.
Now place another clean and dry bowl with white chocolate chips and place it above the sauce pan with simmering water. Same as semi sweet chocolate chips melt the white chocolate and dip the strawberries, add the toppings (if required) and place them on lined sheet. Allow the chocolate to set completely.
Transfer the remaining melted white and chocolates into a small ziplock bag and push it towards one corner and make it into a cone. Snip off a tiny portion of the cone and start making designs of choice on the set strawberries without toppings. Allow the drizzled chocolate to set completely outside or in the refrigerator.
These stay good at room temperature for couple of hours or in the refrigerator for a day or two. But these are best when eaten fresh or within few hours.
That’s it, our super yummy but extremely easy to make Chocolate Covered Strawberries are ready. Serve these as desserts or appetizers or as a gift to your friends/family/someone special. Enjoy!!
